Atlas, better known as “Ackie,” was a happy, healthy little boy before cancer entered his life. He was a loud, energetic firecracker, always laughing, playing, and keeping his family on their toes. He had no major health concerns and was thriving, growing well above the 99th percentile.

The Search for Answers

Shortly after Christmas 2025, Atlas began experiencing intermittent vomiting and stomach issues. Some days he seemed completely fine, leading his family to believe he was dealing with lingering effects from a series of winter viruses.

"We went through the list," his parents recall. "We thought maybe he had developed lactose intolerance; at one point I even thought he could possibly have a parasite. We worked closely with his doctors, changed pediatricians, and pursued testing, but no one could find an answer."

The Day Everything Changed

On April 24, 2026, everything changed. While preparing for a family camping trip, Atlas' mother found him asleep on his bedroom floor, something completely out of character for him. During the drive to the hospital, he slept most of the way, waking only briefly to vomit before falling back asleep. Concerned, she brought him to Cape Cod Hospital.

After observing how lethargic he was, doctors ordered a CT scan. The scan revealed a large brain mass, and Atlas was immediately airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital. Further imaging showed a 10-centimeter tumor causing significant pressure and shifting his brain. After emergency intervention to relieve the pressure, Atlas underwent a 15-hour surgery. By the grace of God, a full tumor resection was accomplished.

On May 1, 2026, the family received the official diagnosis: Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT), a rare and aggressive pediatric brain cancer.

The Fight Ahead

Since then, Atlas has faced brain surgery, port placements, chemotherapy, stem cell collection, and the many challenges that come with intensive cancer treatment. Through it all, he has continued to amaze everyone with his strength, resilience, and spirit. He still finds reasons to smile, play, and laugh, even on the hardest days.

"While this journey has been devastating for our family, it has also shown us just how strong our little boy truly is," his parents share. "We are incredibly proud of him and grateful for every day we get to watch him fight."

Atlas is so much more than his diagnosis. He is funny, brave, determined, and deeply loved. As his parents, they will continue fighting alongside him every single step of the way, endlessly proud of his strength.
