Calum
Age 9 Months Old
"Calum is our bright, brave warrior boy and light of our lives."
Calum was diagnosed with ATRT at 4 months old, just before Christmas 2024. He had an 11-hour resection surgery to remove a large tumor in his post-fossa on Christmas Eve at SickKids in Toronto. He was diagnosed with AT/RT (TYR subtype). He had two tumors—one of which was removed, and one near the left ventricle that is inoperable but responding very well to treatment so far.
He has been an inpatient at SickKids ever since. As of May 2025, he has completed three rounds of induction chemo and is just starting his second of three rounds of high-dose chemo with stem cell rescue.
He has endured everything with incredible bravery and grace, with a smile on his face for most of it. He's an amazing little guy, truly the epitome of resilience and strength! He's responding well to treatment so far, and his family knows he's in the very best hands with an incredible medical team, an army of supporters, and of course, his angels and God too.
With a few more rounds of high-dose chemo to go, his family is eager to get Calum home and back in the arms of his extended family, especially his big sister, Rosie. Though the weeks feel long in the isolation ward of the hospital, they are soaking in and making the most of every moment. They know he's right where he needs to be for now and that they will all be back home together, snuggled up as a family again soon when the time is right.
Calum’s family shares, “Connecting with other ATRT families has been invaluable. We are very grateful to Hope4ATRT, the Facebook groups and the new friends we've made along the journey for the community, the resources, and the kindness.”
