From Diagnosis to Kindergarten
Reflections on Gavyn's Journey from MeeMaw Christy
On June 23, 2022, our lives changed forever when my grandson, Gavyn Craven, was diagnosed with AT/RT cancer after doctors discovered a baseball-sized tumor on the right side of his brain. In that moment, our world was shaken, but Hope4ATRT's support, encouragement, and education about the disease became a lifeline for our family.
Since that day, Gavyn has shown a strength beyond his years. He bravely endured surgeries, countless treatments, and long hospital stays, yet somehow continued to shine with courage and resilience. He is my hero, just like every other child who battles cancer.
Each milestone along the way—completing phases of treatment, celebrating clear scans, and regaining strength—was nothing short of a miracle, and Hope4ATRT's kindness made those victories feel even more meaningful.
Today, by God's grace and with the help of so many who cared for him, we are overjoyed to share that Gavyn is beginning kindergarten. Watching him walk into his classroom, smiling and full of hope, is a moment we once dreamed of. It is a powerful reminder of how far he has come and of the difference Hope4ATRT's support has made in his journey.
Gavyn now only has to have scans every four months and is still cancer-free. His next scan is scheduled in December, just before Christmas, so thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
Thank you for standing with us in our darkest hours, for giving us hope when we needed it most, and for walking beside families like ours through such difficult battles. We will always carry immense gratitude in our hearts for the love and care you have shown Gavyn and our family.
I hope his story gives other families peace, encouragement, and faith as well.
